Marriage Skill 16:
Know Your Partner’s Top Three Relational Needs and What Does or Does Not Meet Them 1. Acceptance 2. Admonition 3. Affection 4. Appreciation 5. Approval 6. Attention 7. Comfort 8. Encouragement 9. Instruction 10. Respect 11. Security 12. Support Take the needs challenge! Can you pick your partner’s top three needs in order? I’ve seen only 25 people out of over 3000 who were able to do this. I have yet to see a couple perfectly guess each other’s top three needs in order. Can you can be the first? Step 1: From the list of Top 12 Commonly Identified Needs above, select your top three needs for yourself—in order. Base this on the top three things you most want from your partner during this season of your life. Make sure that you put them in order. Step 2: Have your partner do step one. Step 3: Now compare your answers and determine how many of your partner’s needs you correctly guessed in the same exact order. Step 4: Ask each other the following questions to better know your partner: • Why did you pick those particular three needs? • How were these needs met in your childhood? • How were these needs not met in your childhood? • What do I do that meets these needs? • What do I do that does not meet these needs? How many needs did you correctly guess? How many in order? |
